Adapted Vehicle Hire News Updates: £1 million dedicated to breaks Scottish carers
The Scottish Government has announced £1 million of funding through its Creative Breaks programme, which distributes money to organisations that provide breaks to carers.
The programme has supported more than 190 projects in the past, which in turn has helped around 9,000 carers enjoy activities such as residential weekend stays and daytime breaks. This latest cash injection will support a further 60 projects and provide breaks for more than 2,600 carers.
Michael Matheson, Public Health Minister, said: “The short breaks fund, now in its third year, plays a large part in giving our carers a well-deserved short break.
“Importantly, these breaks allow young carers the chance to socialise and meet other young people in a similar position.
“I’m pleased that this latest round has now been awarded, which will support a variety of organisations across Scotland.”
The purpose of the programme is to improve the range, choice and availability of short breaks so that carers and the people they care for have a better quality of life and feel better supported in their caring relationship.
The funding will be available from October 2012 to September 2013.
