Your Stories :: Angie, a carer from Welwyn, Hertfordshire
For many years, I have been a carer to my sister Debbie. She is in her thirties and requires 24-hour care and companionship as she is paraplegic and also has a learning disability.
When I am not spending time looking after my sister, I work in a school as a special educational needs coordinator (SENCO), supporting children with special needs.
We rent specialist wheelchair adapted vehicles (also known as a WAV) regularly for Debbie from Adapted Vehicle Hire. The rental service we have received from the company has been good; they understand their customers and are caring and supportive.
We simply could not do without hiring wheelchair adapted vehicles. This enables us to attend hospital appointments, enjoy outings and even take two-week holidays, the most recent of which was to Suffolk. Being able to get away makes such a difference to my sister’s quality of life, as well as ours.
