AVH SPONSORS PARAPLEGIC MOTOR RACING DRIVER
London, January 2011 – Leading specialist supplier of adapted and wheelchair accessible vehicles for rent, Adapted Vehicle Hire (AVH), is sponsoring one of the up and coming competitors in the Gaz Shocks Production BMW Championship for 2011. AVH’s sponsorship of Aaron Morgan, an ambitious young paraplegic racing driver from Basingstoke, means he will be able to compete in the full season of the Production BMW Cup in his car prepared by Xsport Racing.
Aaron competed in motorcross for nine years until he had an accident in 2006 which left him paralysed. But this didn’t dampen his enthusiasm for sport and, in particular, motorsport. Initially following the accident Aaron took up wheelchair tennis, but his heart was still set on continuing in motorsport and after finding out that he could learn to drive a year earlier than able-bodied people, he started taking lessons. He passed his driving test first time in May 2007 and two years later he became the youngest ever disabled person to be awarded an MSA National B race license.
Studying for a degree in Sports Science at Brunel University when he’s not on the race track, it was Aaron’s determined spirit that caught the attention of AVH’s Managing Director, Lorraine Farnon. “Aaron is the epitome of positive thinking. He hasn’t allowed his disability to stop him pursuing a sport about which he is passionate. Indeed when he’s on the race track he is no different to any other driver and we wanted to make it possible for him to pursue his dreams.”
AVH’s sponsorship will enable Aaron to participate in all stages of the 2011 Production BMW Championship. His overalls and car will all carry AVH branding and AVH will provide adapted vehicles to rent for him to get to and from race meetings.
“This sponsorship deal with AVH is crucial to help me really focus on my racing and improve over the next season” confirmed Aaron. “AVH’s support will pay for the full season’s racing, as well as maintenance of my car, tyres and transportation of my vehicle to and from race events. It’s great to have this level of support and I’d like to thank AVH for their generosity.”
AVH offers a unique selection of vehicles, from compact city cars to larger 4x4s and a state-of-the-art adaptations workshop ensures that every vehicle has the appropriate adaptations required for people with different disabilities. Whether renting for one day, one week, a month or longer, AVH offers a range of vehicles from all the major motor manufacturers, for the ultimate in flexibility for disabled customers and their friends and family. Plus all AVH drivers are trained to provide detailed handovers, ensuring the customer fully understands the functionality of the vehicle.
“AVH is committed to helping people with disabilities and their families stay mobile and enjoy the same privileges as anyone else” concluded Lorraine Farnon. “Aaron is a great example of the power of determination and focus and we are tremendously excited to be supporting him during 2011. We wish him all the best on the track for the coming season and hope to see the AVH car riding home to victory.”
Aaron aims to compete in all the race meetings in the Production BMW Championship in 2011 and will be blogging about his experiences throughout the year. AVH is also setting up a dedicated section on the AVH website to report on his results and other events in which he will be involved during the year.
