Guest Blog: Matt Whorwood – Selected to Represent Team GB at the Paralympics
After years of preparation, Matt Whorwood was this week officially selected to represent Team GB at the Paralympics.
Matt gives his reaction:
Hearing the news was such a relief – I can only relate the experience and the waiting to knowing you did well in an exam. You put the work in; you focused and did what had to be done including all those late nights and early mornings.
After sitting the paper you are confident that it went well but it is only when you receive your official result you can be fully certain. That is how my Team GB selection has been feeling up to now and needless to say I’m absolutely thrilled.
I had achieved the qualifying standard at the Paralympic Trials in March and it had been quite an anxious wait until last week’s official confirmation. It was a great feeling to see my name on that list, although my mother had sent me a text before I had chance to read it myself!
I can’t say I was too annoyed though – I do owe a lot of my success to my family for their continued support of my swimming career. In addition there are numerous others who have supported my passion and helped me on my way to London 2012, including Adapted Vehicle Hire for their sponsorship.
I know that it is me who will be behind the block in less than 100 days time, but it is only with the help of many that I was able to get there.
Next stop London!
