Disability News Updates: I-drive finalist for best Integrated Communications CIPR PRide award

I-drive was announced as a finalist in the Integrated Communications category of the CIPR PRide awards which took place in Leeds last week (15 November).

The brainchild of specialist rental provider Adapted Vehicle Hire and communications agency Acceleris, I-drive is an information hub for people with disabilities. It provides a directory of useful organisations for those with a disability and their carers, as well as being a source of the latest news in the disability sector.

The PRide award was for the best campaign which demonstrated an integrated use of communications, including marketing, advertising and public relations techniques to achieve its objectives.

Since it was launched in May of this year, I-drive has received a highly positive reception from the disabled community for its impartial information and useful advice and resources.

Carers UK said: “I want to thank I-drive very much for including us in the section for carers, and indeed for even having one in the first place! It’s good that it’s recognising and supporting carers in that way.”

I-drive has also been supported by a number of respected figures in the disabled community, including Professor Peter Cooke, a well-known commentator on disability issues, Paralympian Matt Whorwood, and Aaron Morgan, one of the UK’s youngest disabled racing drivers.

Managing Director at Adapted Vehicle Hire, Lorraine Farnon, said: “Our aim was to create an online hub for disabled people with relevant and useful information. We are so pleased that I-drive has now been recognised in an industry award for its adeptness at achieving this goal.

“We hope we can continue to be a great resource for those with disabilities or mobility problems, in promoting independence.”

As well as providing information on disability support, independence and mobility, part of the I-drive campaign involved surveying the disabled community on their experiences of the tourism industry. The research, carried out with charity Tourism for All UK, highlighted the failings and successes of the industry in supporting disabled travellers.

In other news, Tory MP Philip Davies has called for drivers who use stolen blue badges to face a minimum six month jail sentence.
