Race 5 – Donington
The May Bank Holiday weekend marked the third stage of the Gaz Shocks 2011 Production BMW Championship, hosted at the world famous Brands Hatch Circuit. With the weather providing glorious sunshine, Adapted Vehicle Hire sponsored racer, Aaron Morgan, was hoping to continue to progress well in the competition, however, unfortunately his weekend was cut short as Aaron explains:
“The racing schedule was ahead of time so instantly after coming out of the drivers briefing I was in the car ready for qualifying. I used the first five minutes of the session to get used to the track and find correct gears for corners. I was then overtaken by eventual pole sitter and friend Jack Gabriel. For the remainder of the session I tried to keep with Jack as much as I could which really helped as I qualified higher up the grid than I had managed so far this season. It also gave me the extra confidence that I could get faster, as I had done in previous races this season.
“The first race came and after a bad start I held a tight inside line around Paddock Hill bend and on the way up to Druids. Halfway up the hill to Druids, I saw two cars on the left side of me touch but just managed to keep my line. Then there was a big puff of smoke when the two cars in front touched, and the next thing that I saw there was a car coming straight at my side. With nowhere left to go and no time to react, the car hit me in the passenger door and I was out of the race.
“The crash bent the main hoop of my roll cage meaning my weekend was over. I was fine after the crash but very frustrated that my weekend had been cut so short. But that is racing!”
“Despite Aaron’s bad luck at Brands Hatch, we remain hugely impressed with his attitude and confidence – and glad he came out of the accident unscathed” said Lorraine Farnon, Managing Director of Adapted Vehicle Hire. “He is more motivated than ever by this experience, so we are looking forward to the next race.”
