Race Day 5 – Brands Hatch

Aaron recently competed in the fifth round of the Championship, hosted at Brands Hatch grand prix circuit. The past weekend marked the midway point of the season and Aaron was greeted with near perfect weather as he arrived at the world famous Brands Hatch and following a great qualifying session the weekend looked full of promise for Aaron. Qualifying 20th out of 39 on the grid is Aaron’s highest grid position in his rookie year. However, the weekend was not to continue in his favour.

“After the qualifying session, the weather turned dramatically and what started as light showers quickly developed into something more sinister.” Aaron says. “Going into the assembly area I was a touch nervous as this would be the first ever wet race in which I had competed. Once the lights went out I immediately found myself struggling with the conditions and I barely moved due to wheelspin. Towards the end of lap one I was closing ground on the cars in front of me and I hoped to keep this up throughout the race but I almost came off the track early on lap two. Keeping my composure and concentration would be hugely important if I wanted to finish the race.”

“But as I entered the paddock hill bend I was going too fast and with the wet surface I started to go sideways. I was able to correct the slide but ended up going into the gravel trap and rolling the car. I was fine after the accident but was so frustrated at myself for rolling the car especially when after the race I found out that I was up to 13th place before the crash”

“The next stop is Oulton Park in July and I hope to put this weekend behind me and use the lessons I have learnt from my Brands Hatch experiences to become a more rounded racing driver”

“Aaron has had some bad luck at Brands Hatch this season especially as prior to the accident he was making real progress and was pushing for a top 10 position. We remain hugely impressed with his attitude and confidence – and glad he came out of the accident unscathed” said Lorraine Farnon, Managing Director of Adapted Vehicle Hire. “He is more motivated than usual following this experience and looking forward to the next race”
