Working to improve as well as inform

Campaigning is a vital part of the disability sector – it was the campaigns of the 1980s which led to the passing of the 1995 Disability Discrimination Act – and although many agree things are improving, it’s important that individuals and organisations continue fighting for the rights of disabled people everywhere.

These are some organisations Adapted Vehicle Hire either works with or can recommend which work tirelessly to achieve that aim:

  • Disabled Motoring UK – DMUK campaigns on behalf of all disabled motorists, passengers and Blue Badge holders. It represents their interests at both local and national levels, and engages with government and industry to ensure that the voice of disabled people is heard.
  • Disability Rights – Formed through a unification of Disability Alliance, Radar and National Centre for Independent Living on 1 January 2012, Disability Rights aims to be the largest national pan-disability organisation led by disabled people.
  • Disability Now – This is the UK’s leading website for, about and by disabled people. It aims to accurately reflect and present the lives, experiences, views, opinions and lifestyle choices of disabled people.
  • Disability Horizons – This online disability related magazine provides articles and resources to help disabled people achieve whatever they wish. It’s edited and co-founded by Srin Madipalli and Martyn Sibley who both have Spinal Muscular Atrophy.
